Job Description :

Research Engineer positions offered by Ash Grove Cement Company (Overland Park, Kansas). Develop and advance research projects aligned with the Ash Grove/CRH sustainability and innovation strategies. Communicate with internal and external sustainability and innovation work groups. Maintain up-to-date knowledge relevant to sustainability and innovation in the cement and concrete field through academic outreach, involvement in professional organizations, and participation in internal and external training. Follow, evaluate, and filter through new and emerging technologies. Determine the feasibility of innovation concepts. Provide data-driven solutions for process and product improvement and advances applicable innovation concepts into product portfolio in a cost-efficient and timely manner. Interact with production facilities and serves as the technical expert to troubleshoot issues and optimize operations. Organize project records and present the findings to key stakeholders. Keep track of decisions and action plans made during those meetings. Take ownership of completing clinker factor reduction IP/IT product development projects through lab product development and industrial trials, with accurate results and sound technical interpretations.

Minimum Requirements :

  • Must have at least a Master's or foreign equivalent degree in materials science, building engineering, civil engineering, or related technical field, and at least 5 years of experience in the job offered or at least 5 years of experience researching cementitious and construction materials including the following: Cement chemistry, Material science, Product formulation, Polymer science, and Rheology.
  • Stated experience must include 5 years with each of the following:
    • Developing new products, product improvement, and successful project delivery related to construction materials.
  • Stated experience must include:
    • Working in a technical or engineering role in cement or cementitious manufacturing
    • Applying the following techniques in R&D projects: SEM, TGA, FTIR, and XRD/XRF
    • Using Chemical Admixture technologies for cementitious materials
    • Performing project management in the construction material industry including the following: leading a stage gate project and leading a research project
    • Using ASTM and ACI standards to develop new products and improve product quality
    • Preparing reports and interpreting technical data to non-technical audiences.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 30% in North America (domestic and international) to visit suppliers or other facilities.
