Permit Specialist (Administrative)



SUMMARY: The Permit Specialist is responsible for reviewing, submitting, and receiving solar permit packages and other project required permits. As the Permit Specialist the position requires interfacing with city plan checkers, Engineering Department personnel, Project Team Operations, and Construction Labor Department. As the main point of contact for permitting correspondence the Permit Specialist play an integral role to the process of completing installation services; through building relationships with the city AHJ's, internal organizational collaboration, and solve permitting barriers.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • The primary role function is to submit and receive all required project permits for approval via AHJ guidelines
  • Act as the SME for understanding the SolarAPP+ and utilizing it for submissions
  • Submit, track and receive permits to 3rd party permit services
  • Update and maintain Permitting SOP's and workflow processes
  • Maintain all AHJ account information in SalesForce
  • Collaborate closely with the Baker Home Energy Design and Project Management team, providing status and support as needed
  • Process approved permit packages and accurately update project files and tasks
  • If required, visit multiple permitting agencies to submit/pick up permit packages in-person
  • Track the review process with the AHJ to ensure permits are issued in a timely fashion, identify and solution roadblocks when permit timing is delayed
  • Conduct QC checks thoroughly reviewing submitted projects listed in permit queue
  • Record and code accounting details for all credit card charges related to permits
  • Submit, track and receive construction changes as required and update project and project team accordingly
  • Ensure all Baker Home Energy Licensing and training are up to date with all AHJs
  • Assist with day-to-day operations and/or other duties as assigned

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • 2-5 years of permitting experience in residential/commercial solar industry is required
  • General construction experience (roofing, solar company, home developer, roofing wholesaler, general construction) required
  • Experience with the SolarApp+ automated permitting system is required
  • Experience with the following AHJ permitting portals required
    • Accela
    • eTRAKiT
    • EnerGov (Tyler Technologies)
    • Tyler Civic Access
  • Experience interfacing with municipality electrical/building and safety/fire plan checkers is required
  • High School Diploma required and a Bachelor's degree in business, communications, or accounting a plus

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • National Electrical Code and (PV) Photovoltaic Solar knowledge
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical, structural design components and solar equipment manufacturers

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

This position operates in a standard office environment and travels in a company vehicle 50-75% of the time. Individuals will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. Occasionally may have to lift boxes full of materials for purposes of setup of programs, typically 20 pounds or less.
