Senior Design Engineer - Aviation (Finance)



Overview

We are seeking a full-time Senior Electrical/Design Engineer with specialized expertise in Low Noise and High Precision Electronics, in our Goleta, CA location. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, simulating, and optimization of existing electronics and future electronics for MEMS based applications.

Essential Functions

  • Serves in leadership capacity for carrying out complex design and development low-noise analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-precision sensor applications. Particularly in MEMS or capacitively coupled sensors within Garmin aviation products that involve complicated schematics and PCB design consisting of one or more PCB's
  • Develop PCB layouts with careful attention to noise reduction, signal integrity, parasitic capacitance reduction, and thermal stress management.
  • Analyze noise sources and develop strategies to mitigate environmental and electronic noise.
  • Define electronics specification based on final products spec. Design and execute testing protocols to validate performance against overall specifications.
  • Develop and implement firmware for FPGAs or microcontrollers to support sensor control software, signal processing, and communication.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to integrate hardware and firmware for optimal system performance.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including MEMS engineers, mechanical engineers and manufacturing teams.
  • Offers process improvement suggestions, authors new procedures, and provides technical input to product development plans and concept documents along with making substantial contributions toward determination of project goal/objective feasibility
  • Interfaces with the Test Engineers on the testing and production of products and support production facilities in the manufacture of products and directs and coordinates manufacture of prototype
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a complicated schematic and PCB design consisting of one or more PCB's
  • Broad technical knowledge and skills in one or more areas of Electrical Engineering (e.g., analog, digital, RF, and/or DSP)
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Extensive circuit design experience for consumer or aviation products
