Responsible for overseeing the Agencies CDL Testing Unit and Bus Operator Training Program. Coordinates to schedule instructors with classes and coaches instructors on performance. Prepares and provides technical training and instruction for the operations of CDL Class B with a Passenger Endorsement bus. This is done under the general supervision of the Manager and Assistant Manager of Bus Operator Training. All training is conducted in accordance with RTD, FMCSA, and FTA guidance and regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Essential:

  • Recruits staff to include interviewing, hiring, assigning work, training, coaching, and counseling to ensure consistent application of applicable regulations, Employee Guidelines, processes, and procedures.
  • Implement and manage comprehensive training programs for new and veteran bus operators, covering safety, vehicle operation, customer service, and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Lead and supervise a team of training instructors, ensuring consistent delivery of the training curriculum. Provide coaching and support to training staff.
  • Assists in train-the-trainer sessions to support the implementation of departmental training programs and consistent standards of training throughout the Bus Operator Training Program.
  • Supports Manager and Assistant Manager of Bus Operator Training with learning and development projects.
  • Conducts CDL Skills testing (after ELDT certification), accurately enters test results in the Commercial Skills Test Information Management System, and follows applicable regulations set by the Department of Revenue as a Third-Party Testing Agent.
  • Trains Revenue instructors, Non-Revenue instructors and Full-time Instructors in all aspects of their classification as an instructor.
  • Assists in updating and developing training manuals, handbooks, videos, and other training aids required for instruction.
  • Conducts feedback conversations to encourage a positive environment supporting the agency mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives and priorities.
  • Maintains a high level of morale and motivation within the department by mentoring, coaching and counseling bus operators non-revenue, revenue instructors and training supervisors.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required; in a relevant field such as education, transportation, public administration, Instructional Design, or related field
  • Must have or have had a 'B' P-2 CDL for no less than two years.
  • Must have or able to obtain a CDL Third Party Examiner License within 90 days of accepting the position.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in transportation, logistics, or commercial driving environment.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory role with direct oversight of staff.
  • A minimum of three years of experience planning, organizing and facilitating training classes.
  • Proficient in using Learning Management Systems (LMS); knowledge of Workday Learning preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of Instructional Design concepts, solutions, and methodologies.
  • Proficient in facilitating dynamic in-person and online training.
  • Knowledge of FTA, CDOT and ADA policies as they relate to public transportation.
  • Acceptable performance in previous positions.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use sound judgment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and clearly communicate Rules, Bulletins, Policies and Procedures, and current Labor Agreement(S).
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details.
  • Ability to work split shifts, nights, weekends and holidays

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those required by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Ability to stand and sit for an extended length of time and walk long distances for long periods of time on uneven terrain and icy ground
  • Ability to work in a standard maintenance environment, which can include, but is not limited to, working with dust, dirt, gravel, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, various temperatures, and chemicals for an extended length of time as well as in various outdoor, sometimes extreme, weather conditions as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb and work at heights up to 20 feet, access confined areas, push/pull up to 125 pounds, lift/carry up to 80 pounds, and horizontally move equipment weighing up to 90 pounds.

Pay Range:

$77,437.00 - $109,380.25 Annual
