Position Summary

The Quality Control Intern plays an integral role in ensuring the highest standards of production and safety within our plant facilities. This position supports inspection, testing, and comprehensive documentation of materials and processes, while fostering strong working relationships with internal teams, suppliers, customers, and various governmental agencies such as DOT and local authorities. Through close collaboration and hands-on experience, interns will gain exposure to quality assurance practices and the application of regulatory standards in a dynamic industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections, sampling, and testing of aggregates, asphalt, and other materials utilizing approved laboratory methods to ensure compliance with quality control protocols.
  • Perform routine sampling and testing of material mixtures to maintain product consistency and adherence to contract specifications and regulatory tolerances.
  • Monitor daily process functions and product batches, verifying that all production meets or exceeds the requirements established by customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Accurately document and record test results, maintaining the test results database and supporting overall traceability and transparency in production.
  • Assist in obtaining necessary certifications, with guidance, for asphalt testing and quality assurance in accordance with DOT and state regulations.
  • Help maintain laboratory equipment, including tracking certification paperwork and scheduling re-certification for scales and other critical devices.
  • Follow established quality control plans, guidelines, and instructions as directed by supervisors and managers.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, ensuring the use of appropriate tools and equipment for each assigned task.
  • Actively contribute to a safe and clean work environment by performing general cleaning and organizing work areas.
  • Demonstrate reliability by maintaining regular and punctual attendance at scheduled shifts.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting plant operations and team objectives.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Less than one year of experience in a related field preferred; training will be provided.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required DOT certifications for asphalt testing.
Work Requirements
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check.
  • Strict compliance with all safety standards and procedures as detailed in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to collaborate in a team environment and provide support to co-workers and supervisors as needed.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to meet fleet safety standards.
  • Flexibility to travel and work outside of home base as required.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and extended hours when needed.
  • Commitment to wearing specified personal protective equipment (PPE) such as face shields, safety shoes, and coveralls in designated areas, per OSHA and MSHA regulations.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Basic understanding of DOT regulations, including sampling frequency, accepted methods, graduation and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate positive relationships and collaborate as both a leader and participant within a team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening, presenting information, and providing or receiving constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in simple mathematical calculations.
  • Basic computer skills, including the use of email and spreadsheets, or willingness to learn.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, operate tools and equipment, climb, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and communicate effectively.
  • Capacity to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and hold materials and supplies up to 75 lbs repetitively; hold weights of 5-10 lbs with extended arms for longer periods.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment (with correction).
  • Ability to stand on hard surfaces for extended shifts.
Work Environment
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and adapt to varying environments.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours as needed.
  • Exposure to typical job hazards, including dust, noise, fumes, and fluctuating weather.
