Job Description
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xiaojun Yu in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology. The successful candidate will plan and conduct assigned and original research projects independently, while collaborating with faculty, staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students.
This position centers on the development of scaffolds for nerve regeneration, an emerging area of biomedical engineering research. The work will involve designing and fabricating composite scaffolds using electrospinning and 3D printing for application in animal models of nerve injury. The research will also encompass scaffold characterization, in vitro cell culture studies, and in vivo analyses to evaluate biomaterial–nerve tissue interactions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and optimize fabrication techniques for composite scaffolds using electrospinning and 3D printing.
Perform physical, chemical, and biological characterization of scaffolds.
Establish in vitro cell culture models to assess cellular responses to biomaterials.
Learn and perform surgical, histological, and imaging procedures for evaluating scaffold–nerve tissue interactions in animal models.
Collaborate with colleagues at Stevens Institute of Technology on related and interdisciplinary research projects.
Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present research findings at national and international conferences.
Qualifications
Education: Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related scientific, technical, or engineering discipline.
Experience: Background in biomaterial development, characterization, and cell culture. Exposure to animal models of nerve injury is preferred.
Skills: Strong experimental design and analytical skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse research teams.

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the semi-monthly base range for this position is $48,000 - $50,400. This range represents the University's good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate's experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
