Kentucky CEI Department Leader - Transportation Market (Finance)

Responsibilities:

The Transportation Construction Engineering and Inspection (CE&I) Leader will be responsible for the overall development and execution of Gresham Smith's CE&I services business plans, including growth strategy, recruiting, staff development, profitability, and project performance. This role will lead strategic planning efforts within the transportation sector, including identifying market capabilities, making investment decisions regarding hiring and training, and guiding strategies for pursuit and teaming opportunities.

This position is expected to initially focus on Kentucky but may also support leadership and initiatives across our broader transportation footprint. It will report to the Kentucky State Transportation Leader and will require coordination with state management, technical service leads, market leadership, other state leaders, and relevant departments within Kentucky.

In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Generate business opportunities with existing and prospective clients
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while developing new business
  • Implement and execute Gresham Smith's CE&I business strategy
  • Lead business development efforts, including proposal content and coordination
  • Travel locally and regionally as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • The selected candidate may also serve as an advisor on public and private transportation projects throughout the region. In addition to business development, responsibilities may include assistance with strategic planning, marketing proposals, and client interviews. The leader will work collaboratively with market leadership and be accountable for delivering results related to sales, cost, profit, project schedules, and quality.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in engineering management related to the transportation industry (e.g., roadway/highway, bridge/structures, rail/transit, maritime, aviation), including at least 5 years in Kentucky (preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
  • Proven business development experience in the transportation sector, with a strong track record in the Kentucky market
  • Valid driver's license
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to field and office sites, primarily within the local and regional area
  • Demonstrated strong leadership and the ability to generate new business opportunities with transportation clients in Kentucky (supporting surrounding states is a plus)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to plan and conceptualize strategically
