SET THE COURSE

The Associate Designer will help create a line of apparel that is attractive to the Tommy Bahama customer, and to work with a team of designers and other staff to ensure the quality of the products is world-class.

BE THE ISLAND GUIDE

  • Develops segments of the Tommy Bahama line each season (color, styling, fabric selection)
  • Within the Men's Knits category, this position is responsible for managing the design & development of the product in collaboration with the SVP of Design, Design Director & Design Manager
  • Research in trends and inspiration specific to defined product category that is in line with the direction of the SVP of Design/ Director/ Designer Manager to meet the needs of the Tommy Bahama customer.
  • Regulation of the status of artwork through the art department in order to meet deadlines. This includes responsibility for organization necessary to include all participating decision makers needed for directing artwork development.
  • Attendance at meetings and participation in relationships with outside vendors to obtain materials & resources necessary to design portion of category of responsibility.
  • Develops computer coloration and determines fabrication, including but not necessarily specific to the defined product category of responsibility. Is inclusive of product for the entire garment segment of the team.
  • Develops sketches for garment styling for entire product category, or a portion as determined by the Design Manager
  • Ability to balance workload to ensure success in development of entire garment category.
  • Works with Technical Designer and Product Developer to develop initial specifications for new styles. Involvement with all aspects of proper fit and measurements necessary to create an exceptional product for the Tommy Bahama Customer.
  • Development of artwork, print pattern, Yarn Dye & Graphics: partnering with in-house teams for development of product-related concepts & artwork
  • Using Ned Graphics to create multiple colorways for print & YD patterns
  • Create boards & walls for presentation and maintain updates throughout the season
  • Travel as necessary to support the design process.
  • Supports merchandising in resolving production problems for current and upcoming seasons
  • Checks samples with Design, Product Developer and Tech Designer for adherence to specs, color, fit, fabric, and construction through production cycle.
  • Listens to feedback from merchandising, sales, and retail staff to learn more about the Tommy Bahama customer
  • Some travel may be required to go to a Tommy retail store to interact with customers to better understand their buying trends and 'wish lists'.
  • Works with team of designers to ensure cohesive line, and best quality product available
  • Resolves conflict effectively
  • Recognizes team members as valuable contributors and listens to their feedback
  • Prepares samples for sales meetings
  • Prepares information for line sheets for sales meetings
  • Prepares and maintains wall presentations for product assortment reviews.
  • Accurate and clear communication with Art Department through development of product.
  • Works with Merchandising to answer questions about the line, and to make changes based on input
  • Works with internal members of distribution channels to ensure needs are met, including but not limited to the Retail group, E-commerce, & Wholesale team.
  • Seeks new ways to make design processes more efficient and shares ideas with design team
  • Works as efficiently as possible, while also focusing on quality results for the line.
  • Seeks ways to improve his/her abilities and skills as a person and as a design team member.
  • Contributes to the success of the entire team and takes responsibility for results.
  • Flexible to take on other assignments as necessary to help support the overall business.

ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE

  • Degree in Fashion Design or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years previous design experience in an apparel company. Men's experience highly desired.
  • Experience in Flex PLM, Ned Graphics, Adobe CC and Smartsheet or equivalent highly desirable.
  • Experience with the apparel design process from concept to product.
  • Previous sweater experience highly desirable.

Multiple factors will vary the applicable rate of pay for this role, including an individual's experience, knowledge, and skillset, as well as work location and available budget.

Rate Range: $80,000-101,000 per year
