Environmental, Health & Safety Technician (Finance)



The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety for the division, this role will work to ensure compliance with environmental laws; evaluating environmental impact; OSHA regulations, and other environmental, health, and safety initiatives. This position uses a hands-on approach to meet organizational compliance to include OSHA, State, and local regulations. The EHS Technician will partner with cross-functional teams to promote a strong safety culture and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.

What you'll do

This role will:
  • Coordinate and ensure compliance with MAPS safety programs across all operational platforms and sites.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and behavior-based safety initiatives.
  • Provide direction and recommendations to ensure programs and services are in compliance with the highest environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Work with EHS Manager and other stakeholders in developing EHS initiatives to ensure compliance with all EHS requirements, regulations, directives, and policies.
  • Development and make recommendations on EHS policies, procedures, and best practices including ensuring that policies and procedures are updated to meet current business needs and requirements with a focus on the environment, health, and safety.
  • Conduct hazard / risk analysis and assessments, code compliance inspections and audits of the facilities and grounds.
  • Recommend and implement corrective actions to reduce risk
  • Conduct routine and unannounced safety audits to identify work hazards, risks, and exposures.
  • Assist with the tracking of injuries, incidents, exposures, and evaluating trends.
  • Maintain environmental recordkeeping and the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) program and requirements.
  • Assist with the oversite of wastewater, solid waste management, and hazardous materials safety program.
  • Attend and contribute to Root Cause Corrective Action Analysis' discussions.
  • Develop and conduct specialized training on EHS matters as required.
  • Conduct quarterly emergency drills to include fire, evacuation, tornado, etc.
  • Assist with recordkeeping and verification of the ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certifications.
  • Support additional facilities as needed. This may include some travel.
  • Be available (as a back-up) after hours for incidents involving employee injuries, alarm activations, and other emergency incidents, as needed.

A successful candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience required in an environmental, health and safety role.
  • Bachelor's Degree or certification in Safety, Environmental, Emergency Management or related field preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing highly preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to become OSHA certified within 6 months of hire.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, & PowerPoint).
  • Team oriented, promoting behavioral based safety programs to enhance safety culture.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-speed environment.
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and use critical thinking skills in decision making.
  • Able to effectively communicate with production employees, and all levels of personnel to include outside vendors.
  • Must be driven to be proactive and committed to action on self-identified job responsibilities and challenges; ability to seek out work with the drive to accomplish goals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and sensitive information.
  • Ability to stay focused on goals, responsibilities, follow directions, and work with minimal supervision as required.
