Control Systems Engineer (Dallas/Fort Worth) (Finance)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop control and automation systems for gas distribution and water treatment processes.
  • Analyze system requirements and design control system architecture.
  • Program, test, and maintain Programmable Interface Login (PIL) controllers, PLCs, and SCADA systems.
  • Optimize control strategies for pressure regulation, flow balancing, and tank/pipeline level control.
  • Integrate sensors, actuators, flow meters, and analyzers commonly used in gas and water systems.
  • Ensure system compliance with local municipal codes, environmental regulations, and safety standards.
  • Develop and maintain detailed records of system designs, modifications, and performance evaluations.
  • Support maintenance and upgrade of existing control systems for municipal water treatment plants and gas metering stations.
  • Conducting tests to ensure systems function correctly and diagnosing issues as they arise.
  • Work with other engineers and stakeholders to integrate control systems into larger projects.
Skills:
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing Control System projects from initiation through completion.
  • Proficient in interpreting and analyzing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Skilled in reading and understanding Cause and Effect (C&E) Diagrams.
  • Capable of developing PLC programs based on Control Narratives.
  • Able to create PLC programs utilizing Cause and Effect Diagrams and P&IDs.
  • Experienced in designing PLC programming from the ground up.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and interpreting existing PLC programs.
  • Solid background and understanding of Instrumentation and Low Voltage Electrical Systems.
  • Knowledgeable about PLCs, flow computers, and integration of these devices.
  • Collaborates effectively with Corporate Engineering team to design, implement or modify PLC programs to achieve standardization.
  • Understands process changes and their impact on Control System programming; communicates effectively with Corporate Engineering to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Adheres to Management of Change (MOC) procedures to ensure proper updates and modifications to PLC programs.
Minimum Requirements: Experience, Educational & Special Training
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 5-10 years in a role as Control Systems Engineer or equivalent oil and gas experience.
  • Experience in PIL, Gas, and/or Municipal Water.
  • Solid understanding of PIL-based systems, PLCs (e.g. Allen Bradley), and HMI/SCADA platforms.
  • Experience with flow control, pressure monitoring, and level sensing.
  • Experience with remote telemetry units (RTUs) and SCADA integration for distributed gas and water systems.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices in critical infrastructure control systems.
  • Must be a detail-oriented, result-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem solving, technical, and functional skills with the ability to multi-task and be willing to learn.
  • Must be able to take direction, work well in a team environment, and interact with all levels of management, engineering, systems, operations and field personnel.
Preferred Experience:
  • Allen Bradley PAC's (ControlLogix and CompactLogix) and PLCs (SLC 500). Proficiency in logic design using Ladder diagram, Function Block, Structured Text.
