Temporary Fire Prevention Technician (Finance)



The County of Riverside's Temporary Assignment Program (TAP) seeks to fill a Temporary Fire Prevention Technician to support the Fire Department in Fire Hazard Abatement Inspections practices in Wildomar, CA.

Competitive candidates will have experience in weed abatement and performing fire hazard abatement inspections.

Under general supervision, performs fire and life safety inspections of vacant land and buildings; assists with fire safety education programs; performs other related duties as required.

The Fire Prevention Technician is a journey level classification in the Fire Prevention Technician series and reports to a Supervising Fire Marshal or Supervising Fire Prevention Technician. Incumbents perform the full range of duties requiring a greater technical knowledge with little supervision or guidance. Incumbents work independently in the field and are responsible for weed abatement and building inspections in an assigned area of the County and for disseminating fire safety information to the public.

The Fire Prevention Technician is distinguished from the Supervising Fire Technician in that the latter is a supervisory level classification performing the full range of supervisory duties.

Advancement to the next level is obtained by competitive selection through an open recruitment.

Riverside County Hazard Reduction Office enforces the abatement of hazardous vegetation, abandoned or neglected orchards, groves and vineyards within the territory of Riverside County which pose a danger to the health, safety and welfare of residents and first responders.

Hazard abatement activities are conducted with the additional goal of protecting rare and sensitive plants, animals and the environment.

" aria-label="• Inspect assigned areas of the County for flammable vegetation hazards; issue notices of violation of fire safety laws and regulations.

• Conduct re-inspections to determine progress towards compliance with laws and regulations.

• Assist in presenting fire safety education programs to schools and other community groups.

• May conduct flow measurements of new and existing fire protection water systems.

• May perform routine fire and life safety inspections of various occupancies and initial fire clearance inspections for licensed care facilities.

• Prepare and maintain records and reports of properties in compliance or violation of fire safety laws and regulations.

• Assist in the preparation of graphs and charts for use by the Fire Prevention Program staff.Knowledge of: Common fire hazards and fire safety practices.

Ability to: Learn to understand, interpret and apply Hazard Reduction and fire safety laws and regulations; make accurate observations, evaluate situations and adopt practical courses of action; read maps and follow directions; work cooperatively and effectively with other employees and the public; prepare routine reports and maintain accurate records.Other Requirements

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.

Ability to obtain the Penal Code 832 and Fire Inspector I Certification is highly desirable. Apply
