A Brief Overview
The Plant General Manager (GM) is a senior leadership role responsible for end-to-end management of a high-volume contract manufacturing site producing topical OTC, cosmetic, and personal care products. The GM will own full P&L responsibility and lead all plant operations, including Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, EHS, Supply Chain, Planning, HR, Finance, and Continuous Improvement.

What you will do

  • Provide strategic direction and oversee all plant operations to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly performance objectives (safety, quality, service, cost). Lead daily MDI and tiered KPI meetings, ensuring alignment across Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, EHS, HR, and Quality. Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to improve productivity and eliminate losses.
  • Ensuring Compliance and Safety: Ensure the facility meets or exceeds all regulatory, quality, and safety standards (FDA 21 CFR 210/211, OSHA, environmental, and customer requirements). Promote a culture of safety and GMP compliance through audits, risk assessments, and proactive training programs.
  • Staff Leadership and Development: Lead, mentor, and develop plant personnel, ensuring proper training and high morale. Implement succession planning and talent development initiatives. Maintain a safe and collaborative work environment, ensuring adherence to safety standards and regulations.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control: Develop and manage plant budgets, closely monitoring operating costs. Identify opportunities for cost reductions while maintaining or improving product quality. Manage inventory and resource allocation efficiently to maximize profitability. Champion site continuous improvement activities (Gemba, Tiered KPI boards, Kaizen)
  • Strategic Planning and Continuous Improvement: Develop and implement strategies for long-term plant growth and efficiency improvement. Lead Lean Manufacturing improvements through MDI or Kaizen to reduce waste and improve productivity.
  • Customer and Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for senior leadership and customers regarding plant performance. Provide regular updates on production capabilities, quality improvements, and delivery schedules. Champion site Monthly Operating Review (MOR) process.
  • Oversee capital expenditures, ensuring the plant has the necessary resources and equipment for future growth.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of materials and maintain strong relationships to reduce costs.
  • Identify operational risks and develop contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Generate reports and presentations for senior management, covering financial performance, production metrics, and improvement initiatives.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline (Required) or
  • Master's Degree (Preferred)


Experience Qualifications

  • 10+ years Leadership experience in manufacturing or plant operations, preferably within OTC, pharmaceutical, or personal care industries. Proven track record of full P&L management and delivering financial targets. (Required)
  • 7-9 years Significant experience in implementation of complex Lean principles as they apply to manufacturing operations. (Required)
  • 7-9 years Demonstrated success in leading plant turnarounds, cultural transformations, and team engagement. (Required)
  • 7-9 years Formal Lean training from an “academy” organization – either through direct consulting experience or via organizations with deep, well established Lean operating systems. (Required)
  • 7-9 years Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams within a high-volume and complex manufacturing setting. Experience managing complex, high-volume operations with cross-functional teams (100–500 employees). (Required)
  • 10+ years Knowledge of FDA, OSHA, and environmental regulatory standards. (Required)
  • 7-9 years Proven success designing, implementing, communicating, and meeting KPI goals, including reducing supply chain costs, improving throughput, shortening cycle time, and improving inventory turns. (Required)
  • 7-9 years' Experience with budget management, cost control, and resource planning. (Required)

  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements such as OSHA and FDA environmental regulations. (High proficiency)
  • Analytical skills to identify bottlenecks, assess performance data, and implement operational improvements. (High proficiency)
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues and quickly implement corrective actions. (High proficiency)
  • Knowledge of end-to-end supply chain processes, including inventory control, procurement, and vendor management. (High proficiency)
  • Customer-Centric Focus: Deep understanding of client expectations around quality, cost, and delivery in a CMO environment. (High proficiency)
  • Strategic thinking and planning skills to align plant operations with corporate goals and industry trends. (High proficiency)
  • Capacity to make quick, data-driven decisions during production challenges or crises without compromising safety or quality. (High proficiency)
  • Ability to foster collaboration across multiple departments, including engineering, quality assurance, HR, and logistics. (High proficiency)
  • Understanding of customer expectations regarding quality, delivery, and costs, with the ability to drive the plant to meet or exceed these expectations. (High proficiency)


Licenses and Certifications

  • Lean Six Sigma Certification-IASSC (Preferred)
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI (Preferred)
  • Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) (Preferred)
