Inventory Forester (Biotech)

Who you are
You're detail-oriented, comfortable working outdoors in a variety of conditions, and just as confident working with data on a computer. You enjoy combining time in the woods with time analyzing results, and you take pride in producing accurate, reliable information. You like working independently but also collaborating with others to support forest management decisions.

What the job is
As an Inventory Forester, you'll be directly involved in collecting, processing, and maintaining forest inventory and related data for our timberlands. You'll perform field measurements, verify plot data, and work with aerial imagery to keep records accurate and up to date.

This role is a mix of fieldwork and office work - gathering information in the woods, then ensuring it's processed correctly in our data management systems. You'll also assist with acquisition due diligence, tactical harvest planning, and other projects that rely on precise forest resource data.

What you'll do
Inventory & Planning
· Collect forest inventory data and perform field cruises, including check cruises for quality control.
· Prepare maps and materials for fieldwork, and coordinate with contractors as needed.
· Process, analyze, and upload inventory and quality control data to the management system.
· Contribute to 3-4 year tactical harvest planning and quarterly reporting.
· Identify opportunities to improve inventory processes and stay current on new technologies.

Data Management
· Maintain accurate silviculture, harvest, and spatial data.
· Use aerial and drone imagery to support spatial data updates.
· Conduct field audits to verify timber typing consistency.
· Assist in training foresters on best practices for data entry and maintenance.

Acquisitions & Dispositions
· Review and verify seller inventory data during acquisitions.
· Conduct field checks to validate and improve valuation data.
· Help transition acquisition data into company systems.

What the department is like
You'll work with a collaborative forestry team that values accuracy, continuous improvement, and clear communication. We share information, support each other's field work, and work together to keep our data reliable and useful for management decisions.

5 + years of overall experience in timber cruising, GIS, or forest management, with a minimum of 3 years of related experience in inventory management

Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently

Preferred
· Advanced degree (MS) in Forestry or Resource Management with emphasis on quantification
· Expert in forest mensuration skills
· Experience with aerial or drone imagery
· Supervisory experience

Work environment & travel
· Combination of fieldwork in forested areas and office-based work located in Athens, GA, with flexibility for remote or hybrid work as business needs allow.
