Senior Aviation Programs Engineer/Manager (Finance)



Overview

Garmin International seeks a Senior Aviation Programs Engineer/Manager (Olathe, KS; Multiple Positions):

Essential Functions:

  • Performs technical market research in support of product definition and/or business development initiatives.
  • Coordinates and presents product roadmap reviews to our OEM customers.
  • Serves as Garmin's primary point of communication for our OEM customers for a given program(s) to ensure that appropriate updates regarding relevant program progress and issue management are effectively communicated both internally and externally.
  • Leads a cross-functional team consisting of software, hardware, and systems engineers to make on time deliveries to our OEM customers.
  • Analyzes program requirements and leads assessment of scope, schedule, effort, risks, and all other aspects of the program.
  • Provides elite organizational skills for your program; you are the owner of all aspects of the program-communication, leadership, technical requirements, certification, customer relationships, and success.
  • Supports technical teams in reviews, drafting of specific design documents, change management, and drafting of OEM notifications.
  • May serve in leadership capacity to identify, document, and coordinate technical aspects of new interfaces / functionality in order to support specific customer requirements for implementations that can be scalable across multiple integrated flight deck programs or retrofit product lines.
  • Contributes to the creation or modification of system-level processes and best practices for program execution.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert in multiple subsystems and assists with educating less experienced team members.
  • Acts as reviewer of technical product proposals and related documentation in response to customer request.
  • Independently performs technical market research and analysis in support of product definition and/or business development initiatives.
  • Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques.

  • Associates are permitted to work from home, within commuting distance of office, up to two days per week provided that their job duties can be performed effectively while working from home, and if they have appropriate approval from their manager.
  • Full-time remote work is not available.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field, plus 5 (five) years of progressive experience in an engineering environment, and demonstrated experience in the following:

  • Knowledge and ability to communicate knowledge in one or more of the following technical areas: Systems Integration, System Safety, System Requirements, or Aircraft Certification.
  • Advanced skills troubleshooting Garmin avionic systems or similar avionics systems.
  • Understanding of and ability to communicate industry standards for avionics interfaces.
  • Acting as program lead for large and complex avionic programs spanning multiple resources and different groups such as software engineering, design engineering, or system safety.
  • Leading product definition and creation of technical product proposals for complex OEM programs.
  • Management or support in one or more of the following areas: program and aircraft level scheduling, contract review and negotiation, or technical aircraft and compliance documentation. #non-indexed
In lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus five years of progressive experience, will accept a Master's degree in the same plus three years of progressive experience in an engineering environment.
