Paralegal (Northfield, IL) (Legal)



Job Summary

Medline is seeking a skilled and experienced Paralegal to join its Corporate Legal department. The Paralegal provides substantive and operational support to the Legal department, including conducting legal research, responding to external processes including subpoenas, drafting legal documents and performing other related duties including legal project management. This individual will be focused on projects involving multiple business units with an emphasis on improving cross-functional collaboration, process automation and records management.

Job Description

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide support to commercial attorneys including factual and legal research, as well as drafting and reviewing documentation for various legal tasks.
  • Provide routine invoice administration support, including the onboarding of new vendors, submission of due diligence review requests, and management of invoice coding and assignment. 
  • Respond to routine invoice status questions from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the internal routing of service of process, legal notices, and business inquiries and requests sent to the Legal Operations mailbox, ensuring that all legal questions and requests are processed efficiently and accurately.
  • Prepare US domestic qualification and withdrawal forms for Medline entities, with guidance from Senior Paralegal.  Respond to monthly information requests supporting Medline's entity management activities.
  • Support attorneys in resolving legal issues within the legal department and/or other functional areas, including collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams on assigned projects related to corporate entity management, M&A, due diligence, and information requests.
  • Support legal department activities related to litigation, subpoenas, records requests, legal holds, and eDiscovery activities.
  • Utilize existing legal technologies to efficiently carry out legal tasks and manage legal records.
  • Proactively review and make suggestions to improve processes and workflows within the legal department.
  • Carry out other legal and operational tasks, as needed, with support from Senior Paralegal and attorneys.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal Studies or ABA approved Paralegal Certificate.

Work Experience

  • 1 – 3 years of substantive experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, and research skills are essential.
  • Strong understanding of legal procedures and documentation, with an ability to manage routine legal tasks efficiently and identify and escalate issues requiring additional attorney oversight.

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Advanced proficiency with MS Word (styles, multi-level numbering, redlining), Adobe Acrobat (split, merge, and redacting), AdobeSign.
  • Ability to work independently with moderate oversight, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and with cross-functional departments.
  • Advanced organizational and multi-tasking skills, extreme attention to detail, and ability to adapt to changing priorities.

The anticipated salary range for this position:

$33.00 - $47.75 Hourly

The actual salary will vary based on applicant's location, education, experience, skills, and abilities. Medline will not pay less than the applicable minimum wage or salary threshold.
