Engineering Project Manager (Healthcare)

Duties & Responsibilities:

VIAVI Solutions is looking to add an Engineering Project Manager to the team in Santa Rosa, CA.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage Military, Government and Commercial Aerospace projects ranging from prototype to high-volume production, including both product or process development.
  • Transition of products or process from R&D to manufacturing (NPI)
  • These programs involve working closely with R&D, Manufacturing and Sales/Marketing teams to meet schedule, cost, product performance and reliability commitments.
  • Customers will be US or international.
  • Project scope may include optical coating design, substrate preparation and handling, PVD coating processes and equipment, post-coating metrology, lithographic patterning, optical assembly, and other processes.

The Program Manager will:

  • Utilize best-practice project management tools to drive project performance and reporting. Tools may include Design Reviews, Project Reviews, integrated program plans and schedules, PFMEA/DFMEA, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals including technical definition, schedule estimation and resource planning.
  • Play lead role in customer communications and the resolution of engineering and project management issues.

Job Description:

  • Proactively manage program risk through risk identification and mitigation processes
  • Set and track goals for project team.
  • Support Sales/Marketing team in business development activities including customer meetings, quote/proposal development, trade show support, etc.
  • Assist in selection and management of external manufacturing partners.
  • Some travel required (~10%).

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Job Requirements:

  • B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Physical Science or Engineering.
  • Knowledge of optical systems and components
  • PMP certification strongly desired
  • Optical thin film coating design, manufacturing, or characterization experience desired.
  • Technical program/project management experience in manufacturing environments. (Minimum 5+ years)
  • Program/Project management experience in development of new products and processes, including use of NPI Staged gate or similar systems (Minimum 5+ years)
  • Experience managing a team of technical professionals.
  • Analytical thinker; detail oriented; problem solver
  • Experience with quality systems (ISO 9001, IATF)
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interaction skills
  • Proficient with computers: strong proficiency with MS Excel and Office and Microsoft Project.
  • Eligibility to obtain U.S. DoD Security Clearance [current, active U.S. DoD Security Clearance preferred]
