CUSTODIAN (Project Management)



Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Custodian/Grounds Keeper Supervisor performs basic and routine maintenance and custodial duties for tribal buildings and facilities, ensuring a clean and professional appearance for all Pueblo administrative buildings and grounds.
Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred plus 2 years' custodial and groundskeeping experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check.
Must possess and maintain a current valid New Mexico Driver's License and be insurable under the Pueblo's insurance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Vaccums, mops, dusts, washes windows, cleans and performs other general housekeeping duties.
Ensures custodial/maintenance equipment: buffer, vacuums, shampooer, tools, and materials are clean, safe, and in working order.
Maintains and performs minor maintenance on facilities including replacement of light fixtures and painting and graffiti removal and repair of plumbing fixtures.
Empty, remove and clean cigarette urns.
Maintains logs and records of work orders, ordered supplies and material and equipment used.
Schedules and reviews work orders before performing job.
Cleans and sanitizes all restrooms using established practices and procedures; replaces hand towels, tissue and refills restrooms dispensers as needed.
Performs cleaning and related activities such as removing snow and/or debris from sidewalks and in public areas using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
Cleans and maintains all other tribal common areas and grounds as directed including pulling weeds and maintaining the landscaping as directed.
Assists other maintenance personnel as directed with the setup of facilities of meetings, classrooms, conferences, and events in a timely manner.
Reports all accidents or damages immediately to the supervisor.
Contributes to a team effort to accomplish the related results as required.
Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Certifications:

Knowledge of traditional form of government and pueblo customs and traditions.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety standards and practices.
Ability to verbally communicate effectively in the English language.
Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
Ability to safely use and follow instructions for cleaning products, chemical supplies, comprehension, reading and safely operate cleaning equipment.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance methods for buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Must be able to work with limited supervision.
Knowledge of cleaning methods and techniques, new products and first aid.
Knowledge in handling recycling materials.
Knowledge of basic carpentry and painting.
Ability to work as a team member in a structured working environment.
Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything, and continually seek improvement in results.
Skills in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee occasionally is required to sit. Considerable physical activity: heavy physical moving, lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds is primary part of the job.
Work Environment:
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to fumes or airborne particles may occur, and the incumbent is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. Work involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which may require wearing safety-toe shoes, safety googles, gloves or protective face shields.
