The Doctor of Pharmacy utilizes independent professional judgement in the provision of information and consulting on the use of drug regimens and utilization. This role is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations regarding prescription medications using stratification and risk scoring.
Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) with a current and unrestricted license or certification as required for clinical and/or scope of practice in the Applicant's profession in a State of the United States.
Minimum of five years of full-time equivalent experience as a PharmD with knowledge of current nationally recognized standards and evidence-based guidelines pertinent to medications and/or medication regimens.
Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration.
Ability to supervise and train assigned staff.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
Ability to design and implement systems necessary to collect, maintain, and analyze data.
Maintain state licenses and certifications.
Must be able to travel as required.
Participate in Departmental and Organizational Committees as required.
This position is responsible for performing pharmacist analysis, consultation and recommendations regarding prescribing concerns such as, but not limited to indication, efficacy, safety, psychosocial factors, compliance, duplication and cost.
While performing this position, interaction may include administrative and Nursing staff within UM/Medical Unit; Physicians; Case Management; Claims; Client Services; Pharmacy Benefit Managers and Vendors.
Follows established Company, State and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Reviews claims data and drug regimens, using stratification and risk assessments, to identify triggers such as cost effectiveness, over or under utilization, polypharmacy, drug-to-drug or drug-to-disease interactions, and alternative treatment recommendations.
Consults with medical practitioners and medical management staff regarding potential triggers and other drug regimen criteria such as drug indications/contraindications, dosages, drug interactions and side effects, and provides other drug and/or pharmaceutical treatment information as appropriate.
Provides education, guidance and training to staff involved with the pharmacy review processes, and monitors performance.
Assists with establishing and maintaining methods for tracking, trending and monitoring of pharmacy claims.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
