ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides required number of home visits, parent/teacher conferences for program option using parent-focused approach. Conducts developmental screenings on enrolled children as needed. Assists parents in developing long range goals for each child considering factors such as individual needs, abilities, learning levels, and physical limitations. Implements and individualizes the education curriculum (to include social/emotional, physical, cognitive, language/literacy, mathematics; Spanish language/literacy, Documents classroom activities on classroom lesson plan. Plans and conducts classroom experiences that include appropriate parent involvement activities, appropriate room arrangements, appropriate use of materials, appropriate cognitive, literacy, and language skills development) for each child and assists parents in implementing the curriculum at home. Documents home visits in plan book or plan page, completes lesson plans prior classroom, completes classroom setup. Supervises activities such as field trips, small group games, and dramatic play acting to stimulate childrens interest in and broaden understanding of their physical and social environment. Fosters cooperative social behavior through games and group activities to assist children in forming satisfying relationships with other children and adults. Encourages children in singing, dancing, rhythmic activities, and in use of art materials to promote self-expression and appreciation of esthetic experience. Instructs children in practices of personal cleanliness and self-care. Alternates periods of strenuous activity with periods of rest or light activity to avoid overstimulation and fatigue. Observes children to detect signs of ill health or emotional disturbance, and to evaluate progress. Integrates all Head Start content area with the education program on home visits, in the classroom, and at parent activities. Conducts observations of childrens developmental skills and documents observations for assessment purposes. Completes 3 Report to Parents reports on each enrolled child. Prepares/orders meals, as needed, in accordance with USDA and program guidelines. Uses food experiences in classrooms to promote childrens overall development. Coordinates with parents and other staff to secure health and dental exams, health history forms, food records, and height and weight assessments on all enrolled children. Conducts parent/teacher conferences for each enrolled child. Furnishes information to families on available community resources, program activities, legislative issues, and program policies, etc. Contacts Family Service Coordinator regarding filing a report with the county social/human service agency after observation or suspicion of child abuse and/or neglect. Assists Family Service Worker in implementing recruitment plan strategy to recruit families for enrollment and to maintain a waiting list of eligible families. Takes applications and verifies income according to program policies. Participates in all required program activities including, but not limited to staff days, conferences, in-service training, parent activities, program assessment, etc. Maintains all Head Start equipment including computers, cell phones, and vehicles in good working condition in accordance with agency and program policies. Obtains a representative for Head Start Policy Council. Collects in-kind forms according to program policies. Completes and submits all required paperwork in a timely fashion to the Head Start office.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises 1 to 2 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Enjoys working with children and families. Awareness of family systems and personal values and attitudes. Knowledge of community resources. Ability to prioritize time and work independently. Ability to work with diverse groups of people. Ability to assess emergency or crisis situations and formulate plans of action. Ability to complete large amounts of paperwork. Ability to drive in all types of weather. Maintain good driving record.
