*Sr Staff Research Asst (Project Management)



In the Zhang lab (Cell Biology Department), you will be focused on neuroscience research using the roundworm, C. elegans, as our favorite animal model. We expect that you already have had experience working in the biomedical labs and have certain skills that we are looking for, especially lab management, developing lab inventory application or software, familiar with operating/maintaining common lab equipment, design and manufacture microfluidic devices, and coding for running customer build equipment, etc. We also expect you to do some lab experiments, so preferred candidate is who also has research experience before, especially cell culture, biochemistry and cryo-EM.

What you will be doing

  • Develop an inventory application that specifically meet the lab needs.
  • Organize and maintain lab supplies and equipment.
  • Write functional codes to control customer build microscope and the following data analysis.
  • Prepare cryo-EM sample grids.
  • Perform experiments, record and analyze data and discuss with the supervisor routinely
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
  • Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects. Conducts analyses of data. Interprets, draws conclusions, and discusses with principal investigator. Presents research material to fellow researchers and colleagues. 
  • Keeps record of information obtained during research. May include a database of information or hard files. 
  • Conducts research of the literature. 
  • Independently conducts technical research. 
  • Prepares various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication. 
  • Constructs tests or assists in the construction of tests. 
  • Collaborates with other researchers.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, or related field. AND:

  • 24 months research laboratory experience.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months equivalent experience in the aforementioned fields in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree, for a total of 72 months combined research assistant/technician experience.

Skills:

  • Working knowledge of how to handle biohazard materials or chemicals following Federal, State, and University regulations and guidelines.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to analyze data and keep records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise research technicians or assistants.

Certifications: None.
