Maintenance Tech - Can Making - 2nd shift (Manufacturing)



SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to ensure continued operation, maintenance, and repairs of all equipment related to the can making process. This position executes repair, maintenance and preventative maintenance on equipment to maximize equipment uptime. Ensures all maintenance work performed maintains or improves product quality and production efficiency. Maintains plant efficiency and a safe working environment. Performance shall be consistent with company goals, business unit Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) to include safety, quality, efficiency, productivity and customer service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Partner with Quality Assurance, executing and supporting all Quality programs that ensure the production of Safe, Quality Foods.
· Participate as a Team Member of the assigned Business Unit.
· As a member of the shift Maintenance Team provide rapid response to equipment related problems to maximize equipment uptime and production efficiencies.
· Apply maintenance troubleshooting skills in a wide variety of machine applications in response to production requirements.
· Ensure that job operations maintain or improve product quality. Stop and correct job operation if product quality is affected negatively.
· Monitor key process points and maintain records insuring compliance to established standards.
· Act as a troubleshooter to identify line performance issues and assist in correcting them.
· Install, adjust and repair processing equipment in accordance with specifications.
· Communicate information to leadership, peers and operators regarding technical issues, equipment problems, and continuous improvement ideas.
· Generate work orders, enter and retrieve data from the CMMS system. Document equipment repairs/findings onto work orders for input into the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
· Utilize Digital Volt Meter, Mega OHM Meter and AMP probes to diagnose electrical problems.
· Operate and calibrate automation systems in order to provide accurate information.
· Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM's), inspections and/or repair of equipment during shutdowns which may require weekend work and/or shift reassignment in response to production requirements.
· Support the installation and start-up of new equipment.
· Perform welding and machine shop tasks related to repair of equipment and machinery.
· Work with equipment vendors or technical representatives on re-builds, service visits and equipment training to reduce downtime.
· Work directly with Production personnel, Quality personnel, and support members to problem-solve and trouble-shoot to correct machine malfunctions.
· Assist operators in machine change-overs.
· Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic installation, repair and service of machinery and support systems as required.
· Complete special projects as required, including design and repair work on material handling systems and other mechanical and electrical devices.
· Design and fabricate parts to improve machine / equipment operation and safety.
· Address all mechanical, electrical, material and safety discrepancies as detected and/or report these discrepancies to appropriate personnel as necessary.
· Rotate jobs within business unit and with other business units as assigned. Rotate on alternative shifts as required.
· Train production technicians and maintenance personnel as requested.
· Maintain a clean, organized work area respecting GMPs.
· Maintain proper safety conditions of equipment and of Company assets.
· Comply with area Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Process (GMPs) Procedures, and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Standards. Be knowledgeable in all required Quality Assurance checks and in HACCP related items.
· Comply with all company safety procedures and guidelines and comply with all company guidelines and policies.
· Work daily overtime and weekends as required.
· Responsible for general housekeeping of maintenance and production areas, actively working toward an organized, clean and safe work environment.
· Able to meet all attendance requirements based on Company's Attendance Policy
· Effectively cooperate with direct supervision as well as maintain professional and cooperative relationships with peers.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education/Experience:
§ High school diploma or equivalent education experience.
§ Two-year certificate from college or technical school; or six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
§ 1 to 3 years in a multi-shift manufacturing facility.
§ Demonstrated experience in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and Programmable Logic Controllers preferred. Preferred experience in high-speed processing.
§ Demonstrated training and experience in air handling systems, plumbing systems, welding and millwrighting preferable.
§ Food production experience a plus.
Skills/Abilities:
§ Ability to operate lathe, drill press, grinder and other power and hand tools in the fabrication and repair of equipment.
§ Ability to operate arc and wire-feed welders.
§ Ability to service and repair VFD's, electric motors, starters and servo motors in a production environment.
§ Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
§ Excellent communication skills necessary to interact with team members and leadership.
§ Dependability and reliability.
§ Ability to use a calculator to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must be able to accurately record results.
§ Safety awareness is a must.
§ Ability to read, understand and comply with work directions, training manuals, safety rules, Standard Operating Procedures and Good Manufacturing Processes.
§ Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
§ Must pass Company's forklift certification training.
§ Ability to read blue prints, diagrams and schematics.
§ Ability to work with limited supervision and perform effectively in a team-oriented environment.
§ Working knowledge of computers and software applications, preferably with MS Office applications.

§ This employee will be required to twist and turn body while standing.
§ Must be able to work 10 hours - sitting 5% and standing 95%.
§ The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
§ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, confined and tight spaces and is occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection required.
