Substation Designer 2 (Government)



Position Overview:Provide substation physical design, technical support, and project coordination to Transmission Substation projects for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality design projects. Provide technical competency on complex problems for projects including a wide range of utility substation concepts and designs including all range of voltage substation and switching station, battery energy storage systems, and solar collector substations. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities          

  • Create substation physical design project drawings from existing standards based on client standards and industry best practices
  • Ability to read and interpret physical designs for utility stations through 500kV, including foundation and grading plans, lighting plans and details, fence plans and details, grounding plans and details, below grade designs to include duct banks and cable trenches, and equipment support structures
  • Understand the installation of high voltage transformers, group operated disconnect switches, breakers, PTs, CCVTs, line turners, surge arresters, and other equipment within the substation and be able to create/draft sections, details, and overviews
  • Ability to interpret written specifications and implement them on engineering drawings
  • Ability to check designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards
  • Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines
  • Visit sites, advise on physical design issues

Requirements

  • 2-4 Year(s) experience in CAD Design
  • Proven Autocad and/or Microstation skills
