Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in the aerospace industry.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing techniques such as Daily Management, Kaizen teams and workshops, One-Piece-Flow, Standardized Work, etc.
  • Experience applying 5S to the work area/department: sort, simplify, shine, standardize, and sustain.
  • Experience performing autonomous maintenance.

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Processing Technician I, Chip Remover in our Torrance location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we're the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.

Primary Purpose

To ensure the safe and efficient removal of metal shavings, chips, and debris from machines and work areas in a manufacturing environment, helping maintain clean, safe, and operationally efficient equipment and workspaces.

This role supports machine operators and maintenance staff by keeping equipment clean, preventing malfunctions, and promoting a safe work environment.

Major Activities

  • Remove chips, scrap metal, and debris from CNC machines, workstations, and shop floors.
  • Operate vacuums and hand tools (e.g., brooms, scrapers) safely and efficiently.
  • Empty and clean chip bins, containers, and coolant pans as required.
  • Inspect machines and surrounding areas for cleanliness and report any issues to supervision.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist machine operators and maintenance staff with basic tasks as needed.
  • Support general housekeeping and cleanliness in the production area.
  • Properly label and handle recyclable materials and waste products.
  • Attend training sessions and work toward achieving required certifications.
  • Assist Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) with storm water preparations.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and adhere to workplace safety protocols.
  • Ability to work in an industrial environment with noise, heat, and moving machinery.
