Westchester AVP Underwriting (Finance)



JOB DESCRIPTION

Key Objectives:

  • Assist and support the Casualty Chief Underwriting Officer in developing and executing underwriting strategy for the Casualty business unit.
  • Creates monitors and communicates underwriting directives for the business unit while ensuring a consistent approach and delivery across the business.
  • This position will work with various support centers of Westchester to coordinate their efforts toward achieving profitable underwriting results for the business unit.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:

Financial

  • Assist in updating and documenting underwriting standards, development of underwriting guidelines and resources.
  • Participate in Casualty underwriting audits and coordinate activities with Internal Audit.
  • Help to establish and then drive pricing/rate initiatives in the field.
    Assist in the development and maintenance of underwriting systems and data capture tools.
    Monitor results/strategies for key market initiatives.
Trends
  • Assist in monitoring key performance indicators - renewal coverage changes, rate change, loss costs, loss frequency, etc. - across the book of business.
  • Identify potential issues and assist in developing plans of action to minimize impact to business unit.
Treaty
  • Assist in collaboration with Casualty executives on the placement of the Casualty Treaty.
  • Work to maintain a positive relationship with key carriers.
Product Development
  • Assists in identifying and implement new product initiatives during the year.
  • Assists in developing wording for new forms.
