Credit Specialist

Primary Function

This role is instrumental in supporting the accounting and finance team, with a primary focus on credit and collections operations. Reporting to the Credit Manager, the AR Credit Specialist manages the full lifecycle of credit applications, maintains and reviews customer accounts, ensures timely collections, and enforces credit policies in alignment with compliance standards. Core responsibilities include customer communication regarding credit issues, coordination of legal filings and lien processes, payment and credit memo processing, KPI monitoring (e.g., Days Sales Outstanding), and support for financial reporting and compliance efforts. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, decisive, and proficient in Microsoft Office, thriving in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Wage Ranges from $59,480-$64,480 annually, dependent upon experience

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Review, research, and approve new credit applications; maintain accurate documentation for credit agreements and invoicing.
  • Manage daily follow-up with past-due accounts; lead collections activity, including legal filings and lien notices (including KY-specific processes).
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries, resolving billing disputes and outstanding credit matters in partnership with the sales team.
  • Process credit memos, miscellaneous checks, and finance charge write-offs; evaluate and approve finance charges and bad debt adjustments.
  • Monitor credit holds, unapplied payments, and lien waivers for material sales; handle in-house customer payments.
  • Reconcile petty cash for plant locations and support financial inquiries from field teams and leadership.
  • Prepare and review SOX reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly cadence to ensure compliance.
  • Manage tax exempt certificates and uphold corporate and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Track and analyze A/R and credit-related KPIs, with a focus on performance and trend visibility.
  • Contribute to month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting deliverables.
  • Promote a culture of safety and help maintain a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), email systems, and internet-based platforms.
  • Exhibit strong decision-making, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team and support leadership as needed.
  • Communicate professionally across all organizational levels to build trust and alignment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in credit and collections, including aging report management and delinquent account resolution.
  • 2-year Accounting Degree (preferred)
  • Proven background in customer service and issue resolution in a finance or credit-related role
  • Solid understanding of credit operations and supporting business functions
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to juggle priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a polished and professional presence
  • Confidence in engaging stakeholders across all levels, including senior leadership
  • High attention to detail and accuracy, particularly under tight deadlines
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook) preferred
